Early Life
I was born and raised in Southern California. The daughter of immigrants, my dad served in the U.S. Army at the end of WWII when tensions were still high between the U.S. and Russia. It was while serving in the U.S. Army that my dad and my mom met. After being discharged from the Army, my dad continued his career as a welding engineer whose work included building rockets and the Hubel Space Telescope. My mom worked for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and was my tutor helping me each night with my homework. I learned from my parents the meaning of hard work, persistence and family values.
Career
While earning my Bachelor of Science degree, I started on my entrepreneurial path opening my own small business. A year and a half later, I graduated with honors from California State University, Long Beach, receiving my Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management.
My desire to help others in their own business ventures led me to become a consultant with the Small Business Development Center and Entrepreneurial Training Institute. With ambitions to reach higher, in 1992 I enrolled in law school earning my Juris Doctorate degree in two and a half years, graduating with honors. After completing further training in mediation and arbitration, I transitioned my consulting business into my own private law firm. Additionally, I taught part-time at some of Southern California’s leading colleges and universities.
In 2004, after 8 years in private law practice, I became licensed to practice law in Arizona, representing my clients in multi-jurisdictional venues in both California and Arizona. Throughout the years, I represented small and medium size business owners. My litigation experience focused on corporate litigation. I often second-chaired criminal defense attorneys during trials focusing on juror selection, juror bias and effective communication.
In 2019, after nearly 25 years running my own private law firm, I downsized to move to Pahrump, to care for my parents who were now in their 80s. The transition from California to Nevada was an easy one. I love the desert and my family has maintained a vacation home in Nevada near Lake Mead since the late 1990's.
In 2019, I also received my Nevada law license. Thereafter, in 2020, I was hired by the Nye County District Attorney’s Office. Since 2020, I worked my way up from Deputy District Attorney to Chief Civil Deputy District Attorney. While working at the District Attorney’s Office, I have handled:
- Litigation matters;
- Provided legal advice relating to the interpretation and drafting of County ordinances;
- Provided legal advice to all County Departments and elected officials including the Sheriff, Treasurer, Assessor, Recorder and Clerk;
- Attended meetings for the Board of County Commissioners, Regional Planning Commission, as well as various County Districts such as the Pahrump Community Library, the Beatty Library, the Beatty General Improvement District and the Town of Round Mountain;
- Analyzed and provided legal advice on a variety of documents including but notlimited to Contracts, Bids, Resolutions, Public Records, and Open Meeting Law;
- Handled cases for Juvenile and DCFS; and
- Various criminal matters.
Throughout my nearly 30 year career, I remained rooted to the family values bestowed by my parents. I proudly call Pahrump home where I live with my husband, parents and canine best friend.
